Town of Tonawanda Senior Center

Open for limited programs

The Town of Tonawanda Senior Center, located at 291 Ensminger Rd., has reopened for a limited number of programs.  On Monday, February 22, 2021 Erie County and Ken-Ton Meals on Wheels will once again begin serving hot lunches at the Senior Center.  Seniors must be signed up in advance to receive the meal so that the appropriate number of meals can be ordered.  Lunch is served at noon in the cafetorium and the suggested donation is $3.00 per meal.  Seniors are seated at either end of a 6’ banquet table with the tables spaced 10’ apart.  Carl Szarek, Councilman and Chairman of the Youth Parks and Recreation Committee says “it’s so important to have seniors back at the Senior Center.  This pandemic has been very difficult on everyone, including senior citizens.  It will be so good for them to come back to the Senior Center to see their friends and enjoy a hot, nutritious lunch with them.”  At this time, they are also offering a frozen meal program in conjunction with Ken-Ton Meals on Wheels.  Seniors that are registered for this program drive through the Senior Center parking lot on Monday mornings at 11:00am and receive 5 nutritious frozen meals along with an additional bag that contains milk, bread & desserts to accompany the meals.  The suggested donation for this program is $3.00 per meal ($15 per week).  “This program had been a wonderful addition to the nutrition program at the Senior Center.  It has allowed seniors to continue receiving nutritious meals while the center was closed due to Covid-19.  They are currently planning on continuing the program even though the hot lunch program is also getting ready to start up again” says Town of Tonawanda Supervisor Joseph Emminger.  The menus for both the hot & frozen meals can be found on the Town of Tonawanda website under Senior Center.

The Senior Center has also opened up for some limited programs.  They are offering exercise classes to its members on Mondays & Thursdays and preventing falls on Fridays.  Members can call the Senior Center to sign up for these classes, but class size is limited.  They have also restarted all of the classes that were interrupted due to closing down again in November.  All individuals that were signed up have been notified. Town of Tonawanda Parks and Recreation Superintendent Mark D. Campanella Sr. says “we are excited to welcome seniors back to the Senior Center for their programs and classes.  It is so important for the health & well-being of senior citizens to be active, out of their houses, and with their friends.  The Senior Center is extremely careful about wellness checks as people enter the building, requiring seniors to be socially distant from each other, wearing masks, and they sanitize any areas that were used or touched.”  A new block of classes will be offered beginning the week of March 15th.  Dates and costs vary.  The list of classes with dates & costs can be found on the Town of Tonawanda website under Senior Center/Bulletin flyers.  Sign up for these classes is going on now until March 12, 2021.   At this time, the Senior Center is not open to groups for cards, table tennis, pool, woodshop, or other programs that share equipment or do not allow seniors to be socially distant.

If you are interested in joining the Town of Tonawanda Senior Center & are a resident of the Town of Tonawanda, the cost is $17.00.  If you are a nonresident, the cost is $25.  Memberships are good for a year from the date you joined.

The Town of Tonawanda Senior Center is a part of the Town of Tonawanda Youth, Parks and Recreation Department and is committed to providing quality programs and facilities to all of its members.  If you would like more information about any of their programs, please call Tricia Pray or Sandy Preziuso at 874-3266.
