About the Program

Whether you are a beginner who needs basic instruction or you are a longtime player who wants to tune up your game, the Town of Tonawanda provides an instructional program for you. 

Registration Information

Registration will take place at Lincoln Arena from 3:00 pm - 7:00 pm on Monday, June 12, 2017 (Instructors will be present). 
On-line Open Registration will begin at 7:00 pm on June 12, 2017 for Residents and Non-Residents. Students must meet the age requirement by August 11, 2017 and be qualified to register for Intermediate and Advance Classes.
For ages 8-17, classes meet twice a week for seven weeks. Adults and children ages 4-7, classes meet once a week for the seven weeks. For class locations and times click pdf here. (339 KB)

2017 Fees are set at $20 for children 4-7, $45 for children 8-17 and $55 for adults. Non-resident fees are set at $30 for children 4-7, $70 for children 8-17 and $80 for adults.

Beginner

Students must bring their own racket and wear sneakers.  Skills needed:  No prior experience needed. Class description:  Basic rules and tennis etiquette will be taught.  Basic strokes such as forehand, backhand, and serving will be the main focus.   Scoring, singles play and an introduction to doubles will also be a focus (8-10 Beginners will play with a shortened court, serving from the service line.)

 Inter Co-Ed

Skills needed:  Will need to be able to hit accurately and successfully all basic strokes-forehands, backhands, and serving.  Scoring should be thoroughly understood along with having the ability to play both singles and doubles matches. Class description:  Will be concentrating on more advanced strokes such as volleys, overheads, return of serve, approach shots, lobs, and drop shots as well as slice and spin shots.  Tiebreakers with scoring will be introduced along with strategy for both singles and doubles match play.

 Advanced Co-Ed

Skills needed:  Need an advanced understanding of all the rules of tennis as well as being able to successfully execute most of the shots. Class descriptions:  Emphasis will be on the fine tuning of all shots.  Work with individual weaknesses will take place.  Match play and strategy will be the main focus of the class.

 Adult Co-Ed

Skills taught depend on the abilities of the individuals in the class.
